Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a controversial 2008 independent documentary film, directed by Nathan Frankowski and hosted by Ben Stein,[2][3] which promotes intelligent design. The film claims that the mainstream science establishment suppresses academics who see evidence of a supernatural intelligence in nature and criticise evidence supporting evolution and the modern evolutionary synthesis, the theory explaining this evidence.[4][5] This scientific theory is portrayed by the film as contributing to fascism, the Nazi Holocaust, communism, atheism, abortion and eugenics.[6][7] It presents people described as American educators and scientists who believe that there might be evidence of intelligent design in nature, and alleges that they are being persecuted for their beliefs.[8] The film portrays intelligent design as motivated by science, rather than religion, though it does not attempt to explain it on a scientific level, nor does it give any detailed definition of intelligent design. Other than briefly addressing issues of irreducible complexity, Expelled examines it as a political issue.
